All That Jazz: 35 Years of Syracuse Jazz Fest

Arts & Exhibits

Wednesday, May 3, 2017 – Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Repeats every Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Wednesday through Friday 10-4
Saturday & Sunday 11-4

Recognizing 35 successful years of Syracuse Jazz Fest, Onondaga Historical Association is offering a visual exhibit on the history of Jazz Fest in the second floor’s west gallery at its museum in downtown Syracuse. OHA’s visual exhibit features highlights of the musical festival, from the different venues, to music industry superstars and jazz legends, as well as some of our own homegrown musical talent.

With help from Jazz Fest founder and executive director, Frank Malfitano, the exhibit is a walk down memory lane for some die-hard local music fans: Dizzy Gillespie’s bulging cheeks while playing trumpet, Jean Luc Ponty’s electrifying violin, B.B. King’s guitar Lucille, Buckwheat Zydeco’s accordion, Wynton Marsalis’ big band style orchestra, or Kenny G’s saxophone; or maybe singing to the songs of Aretha Franklin, the Doobie Brothers, Boz Scaggs, Natalie Cole, or Smokey Robinson. Whatever musical tastes exist in Central New York, Syracuse Jazz Fest has touched almost all of them.
