Junior League of Syracuse New Member Recruitment
Wednesday, August 28, 2019
5:30PM – 8:00PM
The Junior League of Syracuse, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, is pleased to announce two
events in August for women interested in joining the Junior League of Syracuse. On August
12th and Aug 28th from 5:30-8:00 p.m. in the Ballroom at the CNY Philanthropy Center (431 E.
Fayette St.), women from Central New York will be able to ask questions, meet current
members, and learn about the schedule for the fall new member activities.
The Junior League of Syracuse is excited to welcome the first new member class of the 100th
Anniversary Year—a year that will be packed with special activities and celebrations. In
anticipation of the 100th the League rolled out a new curriculum during the 2018-19 League
year for women to have the opportunity to join in either the fall or spring. New members
participate in events geared towards learning about the different facets of the league, its 100
year history, and partnerships.
The fall new member class will help decorate for Holiday Shoppes - the League’s largest
fundraising event, join sustaining members in pie baking before Thanksgiving, and participate in
both monthly meetings and other volunteer activities that are voted on collectively by the group.
They will also attend monthly all league meetings, called General Membership Meetings, which
usually have a training focus.
League Founder Mary Harriman was intent on creating trained volunteers through the Junior
League so the Junior League of Syracuse Inc. prides itself on being a women’s leadership
organization that uses voluntarism as a mechanism for training and developing the potential of
women. Women who joined the League last year have already taken on leadership roles in the
organization and many women in governance roles including board positions of charitable
organizations through CNY can credit the Junior League of Syracuse with helping them to
develop their potential.
The upcoming events will be an open forum for those who are interested in learning about the
League and will not have a formal program. Women should feel free to drop in after work and
enjoy some snacks or come after dinner as they are able. Those who are interested in joining
but unable to attend should contact Caeresa Richardson, New Member and Recruitment Chair,
